Would you hire yourself? (CASM 24)

What does your work ethic say to the world? Regardless of what others are doing or not doing does it say I work for the Lord in attitude and action? Would it be said of you that you are respectful, professional, and dependable? Can they say you are trustworthy? Are you lazy and leave work for others? Do you meet deadlines? Are you calling off more than you show up to work? Do you steal from your employer? When you respond to someone is it with a pleasant attitude and demeanor? Are you welcoming or dismissive? Do you do the bare minimum? Does bad-tempered, argumentative, and uncooperative, also known as cantankerous describe you? The real questions are would you want you to run your business? Would you hire yourself? If the answer is no or you hesitated, think about how your employer and co-workers feel.

Take a personal inventory of yourself. You may have some great qualities, but you may have some shortcomings that are overshadowing your professional and personal advancement. We all have bad moments and days, but we must confront the issues that are causing us to be slack in our work.

Unfair circumstances

I know there are challenges and some unfair circumstances in the workforce. Remember, we live in a fallen world. How we choose to handle injustice determines if Jesus promotes us in His kingdom. It can be difficult to watch unethical and unjust practices take place and feel helpless and hopeless. In these moments pray for your leaders and co-workers to make godly and righteous decisions. Continue to be a light among the dark, and pray for yourself to endure the enemy’s attacks. Lean into your accountability partners for support and encouragement. Make sure you are not fueling the fire and feeding into the injustice.

Young women and anyone for that matter certain issues need to be elevated. We don’t accept or tolerate harassment and discrimination. Remember, you still need to carry yourself in a manner that pleases the Lord. God uses all situations to draw people to Him.

Quitting prematurely

It can be tempting to want to quit and find a new job, but sometimes that is not the answer. The Lord may be trying to mature and teach you how to adapt because He wants to promote you. Those various personalities and situations you are running from you most likely will encounter at the next job. If you leave prematurely you will be sorely disappointed to find the same stuff just with a different look and your same frustration. Make sure when you move on that it’s because God said so. Don’t miss the opportunity to advance for the kingdom.

Be the employee that they miss

Keep the question would you hire yourself in the forefront of your mind. Be the stellar worker for your employer that you would want for your business. Even when no one is watching or you think no one is watching always operate in integrity because God is watching.

When God does move you on, you will be remembered for the right reasons if you were operating in His excellency, and you will be missed. We’re all replaceable but make it hard for them to forget you because you displayed Christ.

Favour

Proverbs 22:1 KJV says A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold. God rewardeth the righteous and the faithful. The favour of God is beyond what your employer could ever bestow upon you. The Lord can promote you to a position without a college degree or proper education. He could elevate you above those that think they are next in line. God can grant you access to places you thought were too high for you. The Word says He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: Proverbs 11:27a KJV. Do your part and seek the ways of the Lord, and let Him do the rest.

In conclusion

You would not want an employee that was disrespectful, late, lazy, rude, or anything else that would cause your business to fail. It is not acceptable to be that type of employee to your employer. Part b of Proverbs 11:27 says but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him. Don’t cancel out God’s favour because you are choosing to be a subpar employee. As children of the Highest, we are held to a higher standard. We are to emulate the type of workers that we want others to be and we would want to hire. We are sanctified and set apart and that includes in our workplaces.

  1. This is great. To answer the question would I hire myself, YES INDEED!! While I try very hard to know and work to the standard of SOPs, I have to be careful not to let adversity change my work performance. That goes to show that we will be ever striving to put Christ on display in our work environment!

    1. Lisa, It is awesome to hear that you would hire yourself and that you know you have to constantly put the effort into making sure Christ is always on display. Thank you

  2. To answer the question , would I hire myself? The answer would be yes I have great at work ethics. But I have allowed society IE; workplaces to have changed my so-called perspective. I need to get back to the person that I used to be prior to being influenced by society. Thank you for the gentle reminder. Your blogs are so powerful and impactful.
