John 14:15 KJV says If you love me (Jesus), keep my commandments. ll Timothy 1:7 KJV says For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. If I don’t keep Jesus’ commandments, what does that mean according to the scriptures? I don’t love Jesus (that is tough to write). If I am weak-minded, full of hate and operating in crazy, what does that mean according to the scriptures? I am uplifting a spirit that God did not give me. Read, study, believe, and receive the Bible for what God says. If He promised something He said it and it is so. If He forbid something He said it and it is so. If He commanded something He said it and it is so. Do you see the pattern?
Even through your pain and trying times. Even when you may not see a way out, it’s tempting to lean on your understanding or lack thereof. Don’t add to His Word and don’t take away from His Word. Instead, pray for clarity and understanding of His Word and your circumstance.
Throne not the phone
There is a saying that says run to the throne, and not the phone. It’s so easy to go ahead of or try to bypass God and call on people for their opinions and help. We do this because we don’t want to wait or go through God’s process. Make sure if you do decide to call on someone it’s a Christian (follower of Jesus Christ). One that will commiserate but will lead you right back to the words of the Lord. It is a detriment to your walk if you rely on someone that is operating outside of the book of life. Remembrance
In those moments of darkness, confusion, and hopelessness I utter the words help mine unbelief. Relying on the power of the Holy Spirit to bring back to my remembrance God’s many blessings. How He rescued me over and over again and forgave me. Calmed the storms of life and provided miraculous outcomes. Gave me eternal life and true freedom. Eyes that see Him, ears that hear Him, and a heart that is near Him.
Reminding me that speaking and quoting the scriptures back to my Lord is what brings forth life and renewal. His words are powerful and sharper than a two-edged sword. The scriptures are alive just like our Lord. Dead words can’t help, heal, or produce breakthroughs that’s why we serve and worship the risen Savior.
In conclusion
The Bible must be your final authority in every area of your life. You must use the Bible as your final authority for those you come alongside. From Genesis to Revelations and everything in between is inspired by the Lord. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: ll Timothy 3:16 KJV. The scriptures are fully equipped to show what to believe, what is wrong, how to correct what’s wrong, and how to live. Don’t leave your life up to chance.
ACTION ITEM(S)
- Remember scripture is the truth and the standard by which we are judged.
- Are you spending meaningful and intentional time getting to know the God of the Bible?
- Are there any scriptures that you are struggling with?
- Ask the Lord to search your heart on why you are having a hard time receiving His Word.
- Pray for endurance. Waiting can be a challenge but jumping ahead can cost you the Fruit of the Spirit and more.
This is the perfect reminder of how much God loves us. He doesn’t leave us out there to just “figure it out”. I have to continuously remind myself He’s with me (through His Word) even if I don’t feel Him.
Lisa, Amen I am so thankful God loves me and displays it in His precious word. Praying for my Christian sister!!!
Carol, These all have been great reminders and affirmations of biblical truths. One thing you would pray quite often when we prayed together was…”He must become greater and I must become lesser.” I think this also fits into this week’s post because when we look to The Lord and his Word first we essentially are making Him and His ways greater in our lives. I confess I fall short in this. Lord help me with my unbelief, help me to wait on you, give me ears to hear you, a heart/mind focused on you that you will become greater and I lesser.
Love you Ms. Bell!
Heidi, Thank you so much for your support and for reading the blog. I am so honored that the blog reminds you of the things of the Lord that’s what it has to be about. I appreciate your insight about God increasing and us(me) decreasing. That is a daily dying to self. I look forward to praying with you but until then I will be praying for you just like I know you will be praying for me. You are truly loved by me!!!
Amen! This is so true! When I have great days or when I’m having a rough day and everything in between he is there! I love the throne before the phone quote! I have never heard this before but how true it really is!!!
It can be so easy to go to a phone but oh how much our Heavenly Father wants us to run to HIM instead! Thanks for these truths and reminders! Love your encouraging words!
Ashley, I was guilty of consulting people over God and the wrong people at that. What a wonderful and comforting truth to know God is always here for us!
