God knows my heart (CASM 20)

Do the words that come out of your mouth reflect what is in your heart? Some people take the Lord’s name in vain. When they get that look of disapproval they say God knows my heart. They are right that the Lord knows what just came out of their heart was an insult to God almighty. You damned and condemned God, the Creator, the Savior, the Bread of life, and so on. I can say in my life I have never heard anyone damn themselves to hell in moments of anger and frustration. On a side note, I have personally had people say I didn’t say, God, I said Got (no gold star for that). Why in the world would you want to even insinuate blaspheming the Lord?

Saying God knows my heart is not a free pass to disrespect the Savior and His work on the cross. It’s the sin of every person that had breath, has breath, and will in the future have breath that nailed Jesus to the cross. God does not turn a deaf ear and a blind eye to sin and disobedience. Sometimes in our prideful hearts, we think we can turn God on and off at our convenience. Words not only matter, they are life or death to our walk and others. Don’t mistake God’s mercy and kindness for weakness. He is no respecter of persons, He is not mocked, and He will chasten.

What is in your heart

What is in your heart? Your actions and the words you verbalize speaks your heart, refer to Matthew 15:18-19. Saying one thing and doing another is a contradiction of what you say you believe. In doing that you lose creditability. People don’t want to follow a hypocrite. Remember, God always loves you but will gladly put you on the shelf if you are not advancing the kingdom. We all have challenges and trials in our journey. Are you aiming for righteousness and to do the honorable things? Are you presenting to the world a heart that emulates God? If your heart is struggling in some areas, fall on your knees and cry out to the Lord. He will lovingly work through those dark places with you. He desires for your heart to be pure and full of His goodness.

Going deeper

God is always calling on me to go deeper in my relationship with him. It’s scary, painful, and at times seems impossible. New things are revealed and old things resurface. It’s a process that seems to have no end. As daunting as this sounds it’s a blessing to be in this place. Knowing the Holy Spirit is looking at the intentions of my heart and bringing me into purity is comforting. The power of the Lord can only accomplish this huge feat.

The Bible states in Proverbs 4:23 KJV Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. God is warning us to guard and protect what we allow into our hearts. Those are the things that shape our views and responses. This means we have to consider what we see, hear, taste, smell, and touch. This may mean we have to turn off certain TV programs, radio shows, remove ourselves from some conversations. Refrain from certain beverages and foods and avoid particular activities.

Suggesting that you refrain from certain activities is not a punishment. God wants to bring us into deeper fellowship with Him and perform a greater transformation within us. I have said before that God has seen us at our worst and does not desire that for us. There may be things blocking your transformation from occurring. Allow God to remove the stumbling blocks and restore, revitalize, refresh, and forgive you. Victory is sweet in Jesus.

In conclusion

God is warning us to be cautious because our hearts are not always right and we need Him to search it. Let God be the guiding light in your choices. Just because something feels good does not mean it pleases and brings God glory, and it certainly may not be for your good.

ACTION ITEM(S)

  • Are there things blocking you from going deeper in fellowship with the Lord?
  • Are there things you are not protecting your heart from?
  • Search the Bible for scriptures on the heart and meditate on them.

  1. Amen. May we keep those scriptures close to our heart. And think before we speak. We also don’t know if we are hurting others with our words. Which also is not what God would want us to do.
One of my favorite verses for this is James 1:26
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.

I’m going to do some homework
    Love you
Thank you for being real and honest. Pointing back to Gods truth.

  2. What an eye opener!! One thing is for sure….the TRUTH of what’s in our heart will eventually surface! I am truly grateful to have God Almighty that will give me a new heart IF I desire to have one.

    1. Lisa, I am truly thankful for Jesus always refining me so I can have a heart that is right before Him! Also, a heart that cares about the things He cares about. Thank you for your comment!
