Ask yourself why (CASM 4)

When a thought comes into your mind and you respond to it, STOP! Ask yourself why you responded that way regardless if it’s good or bad. Doing this will help you to recognize some patterns. It will pinpoint fears, insecurities and come to conclusions on why you make the decisions you make. These are the things you take to the Lord in prayer for healing.

There were times when I would say I don’t want to get married or I do want to get married. When that thought popped into my mind, I STOPPED and asked myself why. What triggered that, and I was able to acknowledge the commitment issues I was having. I was able to see that I was comparing my potential future marriage with other couples. Those comparisons for that moment would cause me to say yes or no to being married. I recognized that things I saw or experienced as a child had a huge impact on my thought process. Asking why and taking personal inventories allowed me to see where I was broken and disconnected.

H.A.L.T.

Years ago I was watching Charles Stanley and he mentioned HALT which stands for:

  • Hungry
  • Angry
  • Lonely
  • Tired

We should never make major decisions when we are in this state. When we are vulnerable this gives place to the enemy to create confusion. We are less likely to think rationally and will tend to make hasty decisions. We are most likely not asking ourselves why or any other pertinent questions. In these moments we may have tuned out the Holy Spirit and jumped out the frying pan into the fire.

Don’t be afraid of why

Don’t be afraid to ask yourself why. We ask why so we can receive breakthroughs in our lives. Ask yourself why if you are being hindered. If you are being propelled forward, ask why. Asking why is not always because something is wrong. There are a lot of things you are doing right, it is important to know them so you can continue them.

Making a habit of asking yourself why before you act on something will help you avoid going down a potentially bad path. This will allow you to see if you are in line with God’s standards and views and not your own. This applies to the foods you eat to your career path. The clothes you wear to the mate you choose. No area is off-limits.

In conclusion

Remember sin always takes you further than you want to go. Utilizing your saved accountability partner is huge in moments of clouded judgment. Look at your motives and intent. We all have personal agendas just make sure yours lines up with the Word of God.

  1. This is sooo good!! The one thing I have to ask myself is why do I keep trying to climb this one particular mountain when the scripture says by faith I can speak to the mountain and it will be removed and cast into the sea!!
