God is still talking (CASM 58)

Sometimes we’re only in tune with God when we’re in the midst of trouble or making a major decision. In those moments when things are going well, God is still talking. It’s easy to block out His voice when we feel things are under control, but God has more for us. For example, God may be prompting you to call and encourage or pray for someone specific. He may want you to attend a certain event. It could be He wants you to rest. Unfortunately, some of us will not take heed until something undesirable happens and forces us to listen. When you receive the bad news of a friend or family member is sick or died and you never called. You missed a networking opportunity because you blew off attending the event. Your health is declining because you continue to overdo it. Let God’s voice move you to action.

Unfortunate circumstances

We have to face the fact that some of our unfortunate circumstances are due to us not listening to the Lord and responding appropriately to what He is saying. It’s not always someone else’s fault that something miserable happens to us. We must be accountable and confess that when God gave us instructions, we chose to rebel, and now we are reaping the disciplinary action of our disobedience. Maybe we didn’t even consult the Lord for direction and did what we wanted to do. Taking ownership is a sign of maturity. Even though we may have chosen to reject the voice of the Lord, God is still talking with His children. There is never a shortage of mercy, longsuffering, and grace with the Savior.

How deep is your love

Your love for Christ should be deeper than the year before. The desire to listen to the Lord should be stronger because you have unlimited examples of God providing for you. Your inner man should be further transformed into Christ’s image because of His love for you, not your circumstances. Regardless of fluctuating circumstances choosing to stand with God should become second nature. Knowing God is still talking should not shock or surprise us but provide us with comfort because the voice of the Lord is always activated with power. If we love Christ keeping His commandments is what our hearts aim for, and it shows in our actions. The thought of not hearing the voice of the Lord should scare you.

In conclusion

There is a saying that says we hear what we want to hear. Sometimes we genuinely miss parts of conversations because we are distracted, and sometimes it’s because we just don’t want to hear it. Because we have a Savior that is all-powerful, all-knowing, and everywhere we don’t get off that easy. There can be hefty consequences for not listening or twisting His words. Being void of understanding and not able to discern because you are turning away from the Lord is spiritual deafness and blindness. If you choose to navigate through life without listening to God’s word, It will cancel out blessings and prolong your victory, but guess what, God is still talking.

  2. Hi Carol,
One of my favorite parts to your blogs are the action points. The Bible challenge is a great way to dig deeper and get into the Word if you’re not sure where to start.
Thanks for your on point topics.

  3. This is good. I pray I never stop hearing God speak! Sometimes the noise of life can be magnified, but in those instances we must go seeking after the Lord for instructions!!

My favorite “ear” scriptures are the ones in Revelation where Jesus says “he who has an ear let him hear”. That tells us God speaks all the time!!
